Woodpecker designs, manufactures, and installs custom timber frame structures for homes, commercial buildings, and architectural projects across Western Canada and the U.S. We combine European craftsmanship, high-quality Canadian timber, modern fabrication technology, and hands-on support to make the process seamless from design to installation.
Timber framing is a traditional building method that uses large wood posts, beams, and trusses to create a strong structural frame. Unlike conventional stick framing, timber framing uses fewer, larger wood members, often left exposed to showcase the warmth, strength, and character of the material.
These components are joined using traditional techniques, such as mortise and tenon connections, or modern engineered hardware for strong, precise, and durable connections. The result is a structure that can support open layouts, dramatic rooflines, vaulted ceilings, and long-lasting architectural appeal.
At Woodpecker, every timber frame is manufactured at our 15,000 sq. ft. facility in Exshaw, Alberta. Depending on the project, joinery may be hand-cut by our skilled timber framers or precision-cut using our in-house Hundegger ROBOT-Drive CNC machine.
By combining advanced fabrication technology with centuries-old craftsmanship, we deliver timber frames with exceptional accuracy, efficient timelines, high-quality materials, and expert support from design through installation.
We design and manufacture complete timber frame packages, including posts, beams, trusses, and precision-cut joinery. Each package is built to project specifications and prepared for efficient assembly on site.
Our skilled timber framers bring years of hands-on experience to every project. From hand-cut joinery to detailed finishing, each component is crafted with care, precision, and attention to long-term performance.
Modern fabrication tools help us improve accuracy, efficiency, and consistency while preserving the character of traditional timber framing. Using 3D models and CNC technology, each component is prepared for a precise fit and smooth installation.
From the first sketch to final installation, Woodpecker provides design and engineering support throughout the timber framing process. Working with specialty engineers experienced in heavy timber construction, we help develop practical solutions that support your project’s structure, design intent, and long-term performance.
We source wood fibre directly from sawmills in Alberta and British Columbia and keep a large inventory of rough-sawn timber at our Exshaw facility. This allows the wood to properly acclimate and reduce moisture content before fabrication, helping improve stability and performance.
Timbers are pre-cut and prepared in our 15,000 sq. ft. facility using a combination of CNC technology and skilled hand-cutting. By fabricating components in a controlled shop environment, we improve accuracy, reduce on-site construction time, and help keep installation moving smoothly.
Texture and finish play an important role in the final look and feel of a timber frame. From smooth planed beams to brushed, sanded, stained, or clear-coated surfaces, we help select finishes that suit the project’s style, environment, and performance needs.
Quality control is built into every stage of fabrication. Shop drawings are reviewed before production begins, and each timber component is inspected throughout the process to ensure it meets our standards. Before shipping, pieces are bundled, labelled, and prepared for efficient assembly on site.
Installation requires careful planning to ensure the timber frame is assembled safely, accurately, and efficiently. We coordinate delivery, installation sequencing, and lifting requirements for each project, with options for full installation services or support for your on-site construction team.
Explore the real homes, cabins, barns, and buildings we’ve helped design and build. From classic joinery to bold architectural statements, our timber frame projects speak for themselves, in strength, beauty, and timeless design.
