Accessibility: Reclaimed timbers are extremely difficult to source in the desired dimensions and species, and the sources are often inconsistent and unreliable.
Dimensional stability: Reclaimed timbers usually come from old barns or grain elevators and are often a century old. Those original timbers had large variances in their cross sections and have since shrunk, twisted or cracked over decades.
Cost: Reclaimed timbers are not only very expensive to source, but it is also very time consuming to joint them properly. It is much easier and better to build with dimensionally square timbers.

Another stunning, contemporary design by Dean Thomas, featuring a timber roof structure seamlessly integrated with framed exterior and bearing walls. Precise site measurements, taken from as-built conditions using our survey station, were essential to create detailed shop drawings and ensure the timber roof members were cut with absolute precision, allowing them to be flown in with a crane without delay.

The exterior elements were primarily installed using man lifts and scaffolding after the main structure was in place. Proper flashing was critical to protect these weather-exposed components.

LEAR Construction has recently has the opportunity to work alongside Woodpecker European Timber Framing on some project and we can unequivocally state that they have been an excellent trade partner to work with. The excellent communication and framing knowledge is bested only by their final product. Our collective clients are always very pleased with the final workmanship and results they have invested in with Woodpecker.
